Traffic violations in Qatar have gone up in June with an increase rate of 5.5%, according to the data, released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). The number of accidents went up by 14.3% compared to the same month in 2022.
Violations included overspeeding, jumping the signals, overtaking, non-renewal of driving licence etc. It also included breaching stand and wait rules and obligations. As per the figures, 619 traffic accidents were recorded, with a monthly decrease of 12.1% and an annual decrease of 17%. The General Directorate of Traffic earlier announced that careless driving and illegal pedestrian crossing are the causes of concern when it comes to road traffic accidents.
Not keeping a safe distance, deviation from the road, non-adherence to lane discipline, speeding and overtaking also result in accidents. Qatar is one of the leading countries in the area of traffic safety in light of its achievements in road safety indicators. The death rate in Qatar is significantly lower than global rates. This is achieved due to the designated authorities taking many steps and measures during the past years in the field of achieving traffic safety on the roads, and strengthening, drawing up and developing traffic policies.
