QRCS distributes food parcels to displaced families in Iraq

The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Iraq has distributed 750 food parcels to displaced Iraqis at Hasansham U2 Camp, Ninewa, as part of a project to provide food parcels for Syrian refugees, displaced Iraqis, and the host community in Iraqi Kurdistan, with a total of 49,045 beneficiaries so far.
The project is aimed at providing diverse food items and bread flour, to improve food security for displaced Iraqis, Syrian refugees, the host community and returnees.
The distribution was attended by Dr Mohamed bin Batti al-Abdullah, member of Qatar’s Shura Council, Meshaal Abdullah al-Hajri, acting consul general of Qatar in Iraqi Kurdistan, Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS, and Hawri Ehsan, representative of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society.
With this distribution, the project has distributed a total of 3,320 food parcels to date, for the benefit of 3,320 families, or 16,600 persons, in and out of camps. In addition, 29 tons of flour have been provided to produce bread for 942 families, or 4,635 persons, per day, for a period of seven months, with a total of 32,445 beneficiaries throughout the project.
The recent distributions were warmly welcomed by the beneficiaries, given the shrinking support for Hasansham U2 Camp and other camps, as many international humanitarian organisations working in Iraq reduced their funding, while the beneficiaries remain desperate for food and other basic needs to improve the living conditions at the camp.
