All the farms at Al Sheehaniya municipality that were used as labourers' accommodations have been evacuated and this phenomenon was completely eradicated almost two years ago, stressed Nasser Abdelhadi al-Anzi , head of the general control section and acting director of the Control Department at Al Sheehaniya Municipality.
He told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' that the violations of farms using their premises as workers' accommodation are no longer spotted in Al Sheehaniya municipality as there are three dedicated places for workers' accommodations that include Muaither, Umm Al Zubara, and Mekaines.
However, the technical control section has been exerting considerable efforts to spot related violations across the municipality through its regular inspection campaigns. Accordingly, around 900 violation reports have been issued that covered groups of workers' accommodation with family residential areas, encroachment on state property, and building without proper permits violations.
Besides, the general control section has carried out 1,600 inspection tours, where 800 violation reports were issued regarding putting advertisement boards without license, abandoned vehicles, and public hygiene violations.
Meanwhile, the health control section carried out 6,170 inspection tours from the start of this year until the end of July, where 100 related violation reports were issued and 13 violating food outlets and establishments were shut down. Further, the section examined 15 carcasses of slaughtered livestock, and destroyed 61 of these for being unfit for human consumption.
In addition, 80 food samples were taken from the local retailers for the necessary examinations at tests at the laboratory. The section also organised numerous workshops and awareness events throughout this period, including workshops for school students and housewives.
Regarding the recent initiatives of the municipality, he said the Control Department has Fekrah (Idea) Team to study the ideas and initiatives submitted by the municipality employees. In case any of these got approved, they would be presented to the higher officials to see what to be done.
One of these recent initiatives is 'The Friends of Municipality' society which is something similar to scouts, and aims at making school students spread awareness on various municipal issues to their parents and families. There is also an approved research project in co-operation with Qatar University to create a special type of food-grade plastic that degenerates and can be turned into fertilizer for plants.
