The Marine Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change carried out a cleaning campaign on Umm Al Far Island in collaboration with the General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality.
The campaign resulted in removal of 56 fishing traps and maintained the local marine environment. The Marine Protection Department urged fishermen not to leave the traps in the sea for extended periods, as this could make them a permanent graveyard for fish.
The department affirmed its commitment to take legal measures as stipulated by the Marine Environment Protection Law against those who violate the ministry's instructions related to damaging the marine environment. It also advised all sea-goers, especially fishermen, to preserve the marine environment along with its marine organisms, habitats, and coral reefs, which constitute natural treasures enriching Qatar's coasts. Besides, these areas are essential habitats for numerous fish and aquatic species.
