As students across the country are set to return to schools on August 27 to start the new academic year 2023- 2024, demand for stationery and other school items is steadily increasing at the various outlets and major bookstores with families looking for the best offers.
Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, sales executives at some shopping centres in Doha said they have launched promotions and stocked enough stationery items.
They pointed out that the sales have gone up considerably over the recent period, as many options are available at competitive retail prices with goods imported from different countries, mainly China, Turkiye, Indonesia, Pakistan, Italy, Japan and others.
Mohamed Nassr said that the promotions are on at his store with goods available from different sources and suitable for various budgets. He said that demand is particularity high on school bags, pens, notebooks, colour pens and families are keen to buy sufficient amounts for their children for the start of the new school year to avoid more visits to the stores later.
Rajoli Philip said that the sales of his stores have been steadily increasing over the past few days with many families coming to buy the necessities of the new school year. He noted that a number of good quality and reasonably priced Made-in-Qatar stationery products are on display at the local stores.
Many other products are imported as young students mostly go for school bags that have drawing and designs of their favourite animation characters. However, older students often prefer the bags with photos of international football stars, and renowned singers or actors.
Mohamed Iqbal expected that stationery goods sale would peak during the last couple of days ahead of the re-opening, as some families prefer last minute shopping.
He said that special promotions are often given on buying big amounts of notebooks or pens, which many families prefer to buy ahead of the school year. Besides, the sales are high on other school accessories such as lunchboxes and water containers.
