Msheireb Museums, the leading cultural and tourist destination in Msheireb Downtown Doha, in partnership with the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar (AYCMQ), hosted another edition of its popular Earth Talks Series, this time focusing on managing food waste.
The talk, titled “Stop Food Loss and Food Waste, for the People, for the Planet” was held at Mohammed Bin Jassim House in Msheireb Downtown Doha recently and one of the speakers at the event, chef Leyla Fathallah, UNEP ambassador and renowned advocate against food waste in West Asia, pointed out that over 11mn tonnes of food wasted in the Mena region yearly.
She touched on several topics related to managing food waste, including reducing food waste by transforming agrifood systems, boosting food availability, security, and climate resilience.
Fathallah highlighted: “The Mena region is responsible for approximately 11mn tonnes of wasted food per year, so my hope for this conversation is to promote awareness of zero-waste recipes and accelerate efforts to combat food waste.”

AYCMQ is a non-profit environmental organisation based in Qatar, formed by a group of passionate young people committed to raising environmental awareness. To encourage local dialogue on climate and the environment, the Earth Talk Series was initiated five years ago hosting many notable figures and connecting a wide community of individuals and entities in Qatar.
