Following the success of its recent beach cleanup at 405: Al Mafjar, the Doha Environmental Actions Project (Deap Qatar) is gearing up for yet another beach cleanup drive, on September 1 at Zekreet."Let’s do something good for nature and enjoy a beautiful sunset. This is a family and sedan-friendly activity,” Deap Qatar posted on its social media pages. Deap Qatar, at the forefront of the battle against plastic pollution in the country, has been leading the charge in organising these cleanup events. It encourages individuals and families to join hands in restoring the beauty of Qatar's shores.According to Deap Qatar, its recent cleanup at 405: Al Mafjar beach marked an impressive start to the new school year with a total of 35 volunteers coming together to remove 250kg of trash from the environment. Besides volunteers, friends, and families, who made the initiative a success, Deap Qatar acknowledged the continuous support of various organisations and institutions in Qatar, including Qatar Museums, the General Cleanliness Department at Albaladiya, and the US embassy in Doha, among others.Deap Qatar noted that its mission is not only to clean the beaches but also to raise environmental awareness across Qatar's communities. Its efforts aim to inspire and empower the public to take an active role in preserving the nation's natural beauty for generations to come.This June, Deap Qatar marked World Environment Day in collaboration with the Environmental Safety Section of Occupational Health and Safety at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The event aligned with the United Nations' global campaign to combat plastic pollution, drawing attendees from HMC and partnering entities.Deap Qatar's beach cleanup drives have become a year-round programme, conducted in collaboration with authorities and organisations concerned. It held beach cleanup drives at Al Zubarah, which saw the participation of 90 volunteers who managed to remove 820kg of trash."World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. At Deap Qatar, we believe that to protect our environment all sectors of society, civil society, government, and the private sector all have to do their part”, the organisation noted.During the same period in 2022, the group introduced complimentary educational kits focused on the environment for both primary and secondary schools. This initiative forms part of its broader endeavour to raise environmental awareness not only in Qatar but also across the Gulf region.
