Ooredoo has announced it will continue as the sponsor of the Ooredoo Cup tournament in the forthcoming 2023-2024 football season. The renewed sponsorship announcement was made at Ooredoo Headquarter on Monday, led by Thani al-Malki and Hassan Rabia al-Kuwari. C-suite executives from Ooredoo and the Qatar Stars League were in attendance.
Thani al-Malki – Chief Business Officer, Ooredoo – said: “We are proud to renew our sponsorship of the Ooredoo Cup. Sponsoring the tournament shows Ooredoo’s proud tradition of support for Qatari football, healthy lifestyles and sporting excellence. This continuing commitment invites each individual sports fan to Upgrade Your World by enjoying the continuing development of the beautiful game in our country.”
Hassan Rabia al-Kuwari, Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Communications at the Qatar Stars League (QSL), said: “In continuation of a most distinguished relationship and co-operation with the major national telecommunications company, we are pleased to announce the renewal of the partnership agreement with Ooredoo to sponsor the Ooredoo Cup. In addition to the sponsorship contract, there will be joint co-operation to launch a number of new initiatives, promoting and supporting the Expo Stars League. We look forward to strengthening our joint contribution to the tournament. In this regard, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the Board of Directors and all the employees of Ooredoo for their professionalism and continuous support for this tournament and for football in Qatar.”
Draw heldThe announcement coincided with the draw for the first round of the Ooredoo Cup, which took place on Monday, and resulted in some challenging duels between the competing teams.
The draw was held in the presence of Ahmed Salman al-Adsani, Director of Competitions Department at QSL, Nasser Yaqoub Laram Salmeen, Director of Sales and Marketing Department at QSL, and Ahmed Abdullah al-Sayed, Head of Football Operations at QSL, besides the representatives of Ooredoo, the official sponsor of the tournament – Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, Director of Public Relations, Ahmed al-Banai, Manager CSR & Sponsorship, and representatives of club companies.
The clubs were divided into two groups based on the final standings in the 2022-2023 season league championship.
Group A placed Al Arabi, Al Wakrah, Qatar SC, Al Ahli, Umm Salal and Muaither, while Group B consists
Al Duhail, Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Markhiya, Al Rayyan, Al Shamal. The tournament schedule will be released later, said the officials.
