His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and President of Guyana Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali held an official talks session on Tuesday at the presidential palace in Georgetown.
At the outset of the session, the president welcomed His Highness the Amir and the accompanying delegation, wishing relations between the two countries further development and growth.
He also expressed his aspiration that this visit would further consolidate co-operation relations between the two countries.
For his part, the Amir expressed his thanks and appreciation to the president for the invitation and warm reception, hoping that the visit would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and pushing them to broader horizons at all levels.
During the session, they discussed co-operation relations between the two countries and ways to enhance and develop them, especially in the field of investment and energy, in addition to discussing a number of topics of common interest.
The talks session was attended by HE the Chief of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Qassim al-Thani, HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi, and a number of senior officials.
On the Guyanese side, it was attended by Prime Minister Mark Phillips, Vice-President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance Dr Ashni Singh, Minister of Natural Resources Vikram Bharat, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Oneidge Walrond, HE Presidential Assistant and Personal Representative of the President and Minister Responsible for South Europe, the Middle East and Africa George Andrew Hallaq, and a number of and senior officials.
Prior to the talks, the Amir and the president held a bilateral meeting in which they discussed co-operation relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them.
The Guyanese president held a luncheon banquet in honour of the Amir and the accompanying delegation.
His Highness the Amir and the president also witnessed the signing of two agreements and a memorandum of understanding between the governments of the two countries.
They witnessed the signing of an agreement on economic, commercial and technical co-operation and an agreement on the encouragement and protection of mutual investments. They also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for co-operation in the legal fields.
The signing ceremony was attended by members of the official delegation. It was also attended by a number of ministers and senior officials of Guyana. (QNA)
