Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud al-Thani, President of the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), met with Greg Barclay, President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and CEO Geoffrey Allardice. Development of cricket in Qatar and the Gulf region was extensively discussed during the meeting. Barclay praised the development he saw in Qatar, including hosting international competitions and local tournaments.
Barclay said Qatar has made great strides to develop and spread the sport and form a large base of players. Barclay praised Qatar’s success in organising international cricket tournaments and its distinguished role in the emergence of the Gulf Championship as the first competition for regional countries. Barclay also confirmed that ICC is looking forward to moving its events and competitions to new regions, such as the Gulf region, which houses top quality stadiums, pointing out that this matter will be discussed during the tournament calendar for the next ICC session.
