Under the patronage of HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, the Family Consulting Center (Wifaq), one of the centers of the Qatar Social Work Foundation, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, organised a seminar during which it discussed the opinions and attitudes of youths toward marriage in Qatari society and highlighted the various factors that affect the decision to get married and the first years of marriage under the title "first year of marriage...understanding and agreement." Acting executive director of Wifaq Center Saleem Al Enezi said that the seminar came as part of the center's keenness to review and discuss all topics and issues that would enhance family stability and cohesion. At the forefront of these topics is the issue of marriage as it is an important social necessity for building life, forming families, and individuals who are the pillar of society and the foundation of its construction.
In his speech, Al Enezi stressed that the social institutions concerned with family affairs have a very important role in contributing to spreading awareness of the importance of marriage and its role in the stability of families and the cohesion of society. He also noted that the seminar is compatible with one of the latest and most important national programs launched by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, which is the First Year of Marriage program, a family program that aims to qualify those about to get married and guide new couples to a stable and successful family life, thus enhancing family cohesion.
He indicated that the program supports one of the center's most important strategic goals, which is "encouraging and qualifying young people to get married." Through the center's work with the group of those about to get married, the center has felt the importance of having such purposeful programs and the extent of their positive impact on motivating and urging young people to get married and contributing to reducing the negative repercussions on the individual and society as a result of delaying or abstaining from marriage.
As part of the seminars agenda, and for the first time in Qatar, the Center launched the Wefaq Marital Compatibility Index, a valuable tool to help evaluate and improve marital relationships.
