An indoor marathon, to raise awareness on breast cancer, kicked off Friday at Gulf Mall, garnering significant attention from mall-goers and visitors of different age groups. Titled 'Run for a Brighter Future', the event was initiated by Gulf Mall, in collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society and with support from Marble Medical Centre.
The initiative underscores the importance of early detection by holding a unique initiative within the comfortable confines of the mall, an organiser said. Expressing commitment to the cause, he stressed that the main goal is to spread knowledge about early checkups and prevention methods for breast cancer. Female participants were provided with complimentary checkup vouchers from Marble Medical Centre.
“It is not about who wins or finishes first. Everyone is a winner in this event and it's all about participation,” the official said, expressing optimism that such an event could take place every October, coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The indoor marathon also witnessed the participation of families and children, as well as mall and boutique employees, among other participants, who all want to contribute to the cause. He said he hopes the initiative will expand its reach in the coming years, saying: “This is our inaugural run, and we’re testing the waters. Depending on how people respond, we hope to make it even bigger in the future.”
Dorsaf, a Tunisian expatriate and gym instructor in Doha, lauded what she described as a noble endeavour. She stressed the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and urged people to prioritise prevention over treatment, echoing the sentiment that an ounce of prevention is indeed worth a pound of cure.
She added that the 'Run for a Brighter Future' indoor marathon marks a significant step towards promoting breast cancer awareness and encouraging a healthier lifestyle among residents and visitors of Qatar.
