The Al Furjan Park at Al Thameed is set to be opened to provide a space of entertainment and physical engagement to the local residents, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported. The park is built by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality with the aim of encouraging people of neighbourhoods to interact with the environment around them and enjoy nature.
Spread across 15,750 sq m, the park is located at Street 1406 with lush green space that covers 80% of the total area. The park has 150 trees, a walkway and a bicycle path. There are 50 parking lots including four for persons with special needs. In addition to the lighting poles, there are seating facilities for the visitors. In order to ensure the security of visitors, the authorities have set up 24-hour surveillance cameras. The park also includes children's play areas and fitness equipment. These are in addition to the disabled-friendly entrances and walkways.
Al-Thameed Park project includes infrastructure works development works, irrigation facilities and electricity distribution along with sewage and rainwater drainage networks. Also, the park has toilets and service buildings.
The trees are planted in order to improve the climate by reducing temperatures and carbon emissions. In addition to giving an aesthetic appearance and making the park an attractive and enjoyable destination and encourage the visitors to interact with the surrounding environment and enjoy nature.
The size of the allocated land is taken into consideration during the design of the parks, as well as the services that can be provided accordingly, such as the provision of fitness equipment, kiosks, and various plants that give an aesthetic appearance and make the park an attractive and enjoyable spot for residents of the area.
The implementation of Al Furjan Parks comes as a continuation of the committee’s efforts to protect the environment, improve the residents’ quality of life and achieve sustainable environmental development for all generations. Moreover, it will support local communities by providing open green spaces to meet the requirements of residential neighbourhoods.
