The Director of the New York Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Craig Mokhiber, has resigned in protest over the organisation’s inability to stop the genocide in Gaza.
“Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the Organisation that we serve appears powerless to stop it,” he said in a statement.
He called for fighting apartheid and establishing a single secular democratic state based on human rights for all the people of historic Palestine.
His resignation comes a day after he called out “decades of Israeli #impunity provided by the US & other western governments & decades of #dehumanization of the Palestinian people by western corporate media.
He concluded: “Both must end now.”
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi appealed Tuesday for the divided UN Security Council to unite and back a ceasefire to end the "spiral of death" in the Middle East.
"A humanitarian ceasefire can at least stop this spiral of death and I hope that you will overcome your divisions and exercise your authority in demanding one," Grandi told the Security Council in New York.
