HE the Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem on Monday laid the foundation stone of Energy City Qatar, the General Directorate of Awqaf endowment's first project in Lusail City.
Director-General of the General Directorate of Awqaf Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Thani said it is the first step in launching a series of the directorate's projects in environmentally-friendly Lusail City.
He added that two more foundation stone-laying events are coming up for two of the largest endowment projects in the country: the Jabal Thuaileb and the Marina Endowment projects that aim to achieve endowment sustainable development, through their community, economic, and environmental contributions.
In his speech, Dr Sheikh Khalid explained that the Energy City Qatar building is environmentally friendly and has received a two-star Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) rating, developed by the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), in a commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, via the use of environmentally-friendly materials and renewable energy technology, and added that the future of Lusail City is full of promising opportunities and challenges.
