Cypriot president’s visit will brings about qualitative shift in ties: envoy

Qatar’s ambassador to Cyprus Ali Yousef Abdulrahman al-Mulla has underlined that the visit of President Nikos Christodoulides to Doha would bring about a qualitative shift in the strong and solid bilateral relations at all levels, in a way that serves the common goals and interests of the two friendly countries.In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador pointed out that President Christodoulides, since he was the Foreign Minister, has shown all support for Qatar’s policy and praised it at the regional and international levels, as well as its effective role in several issues, emphasising that the two countries share common visions on many regional and international issues based on the principle of dialogue and crisis resolution without any external interference and with full respect for the sovereignty of states.The ambassador described Qatar-Cyprus bilateral relations as excellent, noting that the two countries are bound by many co-operation agreements in various fields, and that the bilateral relations have grown significantly after the exchange of the opening of embassies in each other’s capitals.He highlighted the strong co-operation in the field of construction where Cypriot companies contributed to the construction of many major infrastructure projects in Qatar, most notably the construction of the Education City Stadium.He shed light on areas and features of the cultural and educational co-operation between the two countries, the most prominent of which is working to achieve full recognition between universities and institutes in the two countries; noting that Qatar recognises the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute, and many intellectuals from both sides participate in seminars, exhibitions and conferences held in both countries.The ambassador highlighted the role carried out by Qatar in resolving many disputes and conflicts in different regions around the world because it is considered a trusted mediator by all parties, and because it adopts the principle of dialogue and crisis resolution without any external interference and with full respect for the sovereignty of states.Meanwhile, the ambassador of Cyprus in Doha, Nicholas Manolis, affirmed that the relations between Qatar and Cyprus are continuously developing and flourishing, pointing to the visit of President Christodoulides and his talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, which will further promote and strengthen the relations between the two countries and peoples, especially at the current juncture where the region is facing crucial challenges and upheavals.He said that the energy, investment and higher education are the most prominent areas of co-operation between the two countries.Indeed, the strong and solid character of the bilateral relations is expected to be verified after the conclusion of the president’s visit and his meeting with His Highness the Amir, the ambassador said.
