Top researchers take part in int'l conference on translation

The 10th International Conference on Translation and Problems of Interculturalisation kicked off in Doha Monday with the participation of about 120 researchers, translators and academics from worldwide.
The two-day event is organised by the Forum of Arabic and International Relations (FAIR).
Director of FAIR Dr Mohamed Hamid al-Ahmari said in his opening speech that the conference, which is celebrating its first decade, was able to solve many of the problems related to translation issues during the past period, and it also contributed to achieving communication between translators from different languages of the world, to represent a bridge for dialogue and understanding between cultures.
He added that the culture reached through agreement and communication helps in issues of peace and justice throughout the world, and that steps in this cultural work confirm insistence on understanding and communication in a way that makes this cultural elite a role model for humans in co-operation for reform.
The first session of the conference, entitled 'Arabic/Spanish Translation', was moderated by the University of Malaga's Dr Salvador Pena Martin, a former professor at the universities of Baghdad and Granada. He was the winner of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding in 2016.
The session discussed three researches by Jose Miguel Puerta, professor of art history and the Arabic language at the University of Granada; Dr Margarida Castell of the University of Barcelona, and Palestinian academic Hosni Malitat.
The conference saw two other sessions on moresque translations and the philosophy of science between translation and the environment, which included a group of researchers.
The conference also devoted a session to discussing the role of Artificial Intelligence in translation.
