Under the slogan of "We Can", the 25th International Al Bawasil camp for Children with Diabetes, organised by the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), continues its activities with the participation of 60 children diagnosed with diabetes, and 12 medical staff accompanying children from participating countries. In addition, 65 QDA employees and volunteers are working around the clock at the camp's headquarters at the Aspire Sports Excellence Academy. The children are divided into four teams - the Superheroes team, the Finack team, the Knights team, and the Flame team – with each team led by two leaders and under the supervision of the camp's medical committee. This year, in addition to Qatar, the camp has hosted participants from Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Iran, Morocco, Egypt, Oman, and Algeria. The camp programme combines entertainment and education, including workshops that cover nutrition, insulin and injection places, handicraft, and oral health, and a variety of recreational games, such as the football challenge In collaboration with Paris Saint-Germain Academy Qatar. Outbound trips have also been a highlight for the children, featuring visits to significant sites in Qatar, such as the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum 321 and a trip to Katara – the Cultural Village. The camp continues until December 26, with the closing ceremony and the exchange of commemorative trophies taking place tomorrow. "We have strived to make our children living with diabetes happy, and we are happy and confident that they receive the necessary support and care through the camp's medical protocol and through all the educational and recreational activities that we have designed specifically for them,” said QDA executive director Dr Abdulla al-Hamaq.
