QC pledges support for 1mn refugees at Geneva Forum

Qatar Charity (QC) participated in the Global Refugee Forum which took place from December 12-15 in Geneva, Switzerland, a statement said Tuesday.QC pledged to support one million refugees in Mena, Africa and South Asia through the provision of WASH, health services, shelter and quality education and economic opportunities.The pledge encompassed a contribution to support UNHCR in its crucial mandate to protect and assist refugees, supporting the provision of cash-based assistance to 150,000 refugees and host communities in Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan, and other countries. The pledge also included a contribution to support the STEP Program (Skills training and Education Programme) dedicated to enabling the economic inclusion of refugees.The programme will be implemented in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and Spark through facilitation of access to quality education and vocational training to refugees, IDPs and host communities across many countries in the Mena."The pledge by Qatar Charity, one of the largest commitments by the private sector at the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, serves as a powerful testament to Qatar Charity's commitment to address the urgent needs and challenges faced by displaced communities around the world. This along with the commitments from both entities of the private sector and the public sector in Qatar serve as a testament to Qatar’s unwavering support to the plight of refugees in platforms such as the Global Refugee Forum," said HE Lolwa AlKhater, Minister of State for International Co-operation.Speaking at the High-Level event on Middle East & North Africa solutions, Ahmed AlRumaihi, director of External Affairs, QC, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts for addressing the displacement crisis.Held every four years, the Global Refugee Forum is the largest international gathering on refugees. The second edition of the forum, co-hosted by UNHCR, and Switzerland and co-convened by Colombia, France, Japan, Jordan and Uganda, brought together more than 4,000 participants and mobilised more than 1,000 pledges of more than 2.2bn from governments, foundations, and private sector, the statement added.
