MOECC Organizes Training Course on Detecting Radioactive Materials

Doha, December 20 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) organized a training course on radiation and methods of detection and surveying at the Customs Training Center at the General Authority of Customs (GAC).The course, supervised by the Radiation Protection Department, covered the basics of radiation, the right uses of radioactive materials in the State of Qatar and its legal aspects.It also included the role of the GAC in detection and control operations at border crossings, methods of transporting radioactive materials, practical training on the use of radiation detection devices for radioactive sources and materials, laws and regulations related to the process of handling and using radioactive materials, as well as the role of customs in their detection and border control.This course comes as part of the MOECC's efforts to enhance and increase the efficiency of supervisory work across border crossings. It also falls within the framework of national projects and comprehensive training plans that aim to qualify individuals who control the import and export of radiological materials and devices for industrial and medical use, and in the field of scientific research.The MOECC conducts a series of training courses and workshops for workers at border crossings to deal with radiation detection gates, which represent the first line of defense at border crossings, and to increase control over various goods and shipments that are imported from outside the State of Qatar.
