Qatar University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Korean Society on Water Environment (KSWE) of the Korean Ministry of Environment to reinforce cooperation in the fields of water relevant studies and research.
The MoU was signed by Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed and President of KSWE, Prof. Joonhong Park.
Signed in Seoul, the MoU underscores the commitment of the two parties to work together in multiple fields, such as exchanging the technology of water industry and expertise, as well as joint organization of seminars, workshops, and training programmes for human cadres in this field.
The MoU included cooperation in joint global research, joint support for local research and development in Qatar, including experiences and performance evaluation, et cetera, along with several relevant fields.
The cooperation is a critical step towards beefing up relationships between the two institutions to further achieve QU's message which is primarily based on conducting distinguished studies and research relevant to local and regional challenges and contribute to addressing them, Prof. Al Maadeed said.
She added that the partnership between QU and KSWE is not merely a bilateral agreement, but rather a symbol of the increasing global focus on water sustainable management, pointing out that the partnership paves the way for progression in water technology research and development with profound impacts at the local and global levels.
For his part, Prof. Joonhong Park underscored the significance of this agreement for the Korean side, as a prelude to forging bilateral relationship between the two institutions with respect to technology transference and conducting joint global research in water technology.
Through its Water Technology Unit, QU has carried out numerous impactful and applied research projects in water technology, particularly with respect to water desalination and treatment, in addition to managing saline water and others which had a profound role in beefing up technical capabilities and national expertise in this field.
