Qatar Charity (QC)’s office in Gambia has implemented a project to support the health sector by providing medical equipment and supplies to the Essau District Hospital, which will benefit more than 8,000 of the poorest people in the northwestern region.
Gambia’s First Lady Fatoumata Bah-Barrow has said that the QC is a role model for institutions that contribute to the development of the country.
Speaking at the handover event, Bah-Barrow noted Qatar’s contribution, especially in support of the country’s health and education sectors.
She thanked the people of Qatar for their continued support of humanitarian projects.
Gambia’s Minister of Health Amadou Lamin Samteh said the medical equipment provided by the QC will improve health services for residents of the city and neighbouring villages.
It will also help treat many diseases, including chronic ailments like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, as well as during surgical operations.
Hospital director Dr Saneh thanked Qatar Charity for its support, saying that the new medical equipment will contribute significantly to improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients in the region.
North Bank regional governor Lamin Sidikan said the region lacks the most basic health equipment.
He thanked Qatar Charity and underscored the importance and value of medical equipment and its impact on the region.
The “Fatumata Barro FABB Foundation”, an implementing partner of Qatar Charity’s office in Gambia, stressed the importance of the partnership, especially in the field of rapid response to the requirements of decent living through implemented projects.
