Former Pakistan finance and one time foreign minister Sartaj Aziz passed away on Tuesday in Islamabad, leaving behind a legacy celebrated by officials from the government and his party, the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N). The party shared news of his death on a social media platform, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr Sartaj Aziz. A stalwart, a true icon and a towering figure! His contributions to the nation and towards the party will never be forgotten.” Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi remarked on Aziz’s passing earlier in the evening in Islamabad, saying: "He lived a rare life of courage, dignity, and integrity; a life worth celebrating.” Abbasi emphasised Aziz’s numerous achievements and contributions.State-run Radio Pakistan highlighted Aziz’s role in shaping economic policies during his tenure at the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Commission, describing his impact as pivotal during critical periods in Pakistan’s history.President Dr Arif Alvi expressed his sorrow over Aziz’s death and offered condolences to his family. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar acknowledged Aziz as an "experienced politician” and a valuable asset to the nation.
