Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), a Qatar Foundation (QF) partner university, has announced its lineup for the Community and Continuing Education (CCE) short courses and taster sessions for 2024.
Members of the public who would like to learn more about art and design or take their existing creative skills to the next level can sign up for the courses, which cater to various age groups.
The courses and taster sessions are led by professional artists and designers, most of whom are VCUarts Qatar graduates. Some taster sessions will be held at Café #999 at the Fire Station.
This year, the courses range from sound design and digital illustration to interior design and branding.
The schedule for the taster sessions is as follows: ‘Introduction to Bullet Journaling’ – Taster session (Free, Online, 1 hour, January 4); ‘Refresh your Home’ – Taster session (Free, Online, 1 hour, January 7); ‘Mindful Painting’ – Taster session (Cafe #999, QR350, January 10 from 5pm to 7pm); ‘Floral Design’ – Taster session (Cafe #999, QR500, January 28 from 5pm to 7pm).
The schedule for the short courses is as follows: ‘Portfolio Development Class E’ (This is an intensive programme meant for high school students or those wishing to learn how to build a competent portfolio of their work) – Online, QR1,600, January 7 to 30 from 5pm to 8pm;
‘Stop Motion Storytelling’ (For children ages 11 to 14) – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR1,000, February 13 to 22 from 6pm to 7.30 pm. This will be offered free for students studying at QF schools;
‘Introduction to Interior Design’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR850, January 15 to February 26 from 6pm to 8pm; ‘SoundLab: Intro to Sound Design and Crafting’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR1,000, January 7 to March 3 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm;
‘Advanced Digital Painting: Fantasy Art’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR950, January 15 to March 4 from 6pm to 8pm; ‘Adobe Illustrator: Manipulate and Customize Typography’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR1,550, January 17 to March 6 from 5pm to 8pm;
‘Creative Painting: Building a Visual Mythos’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR1,300, January 17 to March 6 from 6pm to 9pm; ‘Introduction to Branding and Design Theory’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR950, January 13 to March 9 from 12nn to 2pm; and ‘Introduction to Interior Design’ – Venue: VCUarts Qatar, QR850, January 15 to February 26 from 6pm to 8pm.
