The Arab League emphasized the need for the United States to fulfill its responsibilities in exerting pressure on Israel to halt the military campaign conducted by the occupying force against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and its persistent efforts to forcibly relocate residents from the northern to the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
This statement was made during a meeting held by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, with Senators Christopher Van Hollen and Jeffrey Merkley, members of the Appropriations Committee in the US Senate. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Arab League's General Secretariat on Friday.
Aboul Gheit pointed out during the meeting that Israeli practices constitute forms of collective punishment that amount to war crimes and violate international humanitarian law. In this context, he stressed the necessity of seriously and genuinely implementing the two-state solution to end this conflict.
He emphasized the importance of continuing to exert pressure to provide the required humanitarian aid through humanitarian corridors and called for a complete ceasefire.
Aboul Gheit urged the United States to pressure Israel to stop the Israeli war machine in the Gaza Strip.
In response, the American Congress members affirmed the importance of the Arab role and the role of the Arab League in ending this war. They highlighted the significance of working towards the immediate release of hostages and the swift delivery of aid to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip.
