At least 2,500 people have been left homeless after a fire broke out in parts of a cramped Rohingya refugee camp in southeastern Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Police official Muhammad Iqbal said that the fire, which took firefighters more than three hours to extinguish, consumed up to 500 temporary shelters, noting that no casualties were reported.
In turn, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bangladesh (UNHCR) said that it would provide support, adding that the fire broke out in Cox's Bazar 5 camp.
Bangladesh hosts more than a million Rohingya Muslims in 34 camps in Cox's Bazar after they fled persecution in neighboring Myanmar. (QNA)
