The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Sunday that an Israeli air strike killed two journalists in the Palestinian territory.Mustafa Thuraya, a video stringer and Hamza Wael Dahdouh, a journalist with Al Jazeera television network, were killed while they were travelling in a car, the ministry and medics said.Hamza's father Wael al-Dahdouh is Al Jazeera's bureau chief in the Gaza Strip, and was also recently wounded in a strike. He was wounded after his wife and two children were killed by a separate Israeli strike in the initial weeks of the war.Al Jazeera Media Network strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of the Palestinian journalists’ car in Northern Rafah killing Al Jazeera crew, and seriously injuring fellow journalist Hazem Rajab. The assassination of Mustafa and Hamza, whilst they were on their way to carry out their duty in the Gaza Strip, reaffirms the need to take immediate necessary legal measures against the occupation forces to ensure that there is no impunity, the Al Jazeera said in a statement."The Israeli occupation forces has systematically targeted our colleague Wael AlDahdoh and his family, killing his wife, son, daughter, and grandson in November 2023. Wael and his colleague, the late Samer Abu Daqqa, cameraman, were also targeted in December 2023. The assassination of his son Hamza in January 2024 confirms without a doubt the Israeli forces’ determination to continue these brutal attacks against journalists and their families, aiming to discourage them from performing their mission, violating the principles of freedom of the press and undermines the right to life."We urge the International Criminal Court, the governments and human rights organisations, and the United Nations to hold Israel accountable for its heinous crimes and demand an end to the targeting and killing of journalists."Al Jazeera pledged to take all legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes. "Al Jazeera reaffirms its commitment to achieving justice for more than 100 journalists killed, and to continuing to cover these grave violations."
