The General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation -- Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, opened Wednesday the Turab (sand) exhibition by the Qatari artist Lolwa al-Mansouri in Building 18 in Katara.
The exhibition, which continues until Jan 24, includes 36 artworks representing Qatari heritage.
Al-Mansouri used in her works actual sand from the areas in Qatar that she painted to give a more realistic touch.
Dr al-Sulaiti praised al-Mansouri saying that she showed excellence in her work and was creative in using sand to have the viewers experience a genuine feeling of Qatar's areas and heritage.
He expressed Katara's continuous aim to provide diverse artistic experiences, whether with the topics addressed or the methods used.
During the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Katara will have distinguished events, activities and exhibitions, Dr al-Sulaiti added.
Al-Mansouri said the Turab exhibition is her first and the name represents the material that can be found in the old buildings in Qatar. She explained that her love for heritage was what prompted her to draw Qatari architecture.
She said that the exhibition is the result of seven years of work, drawing and gathering information about homes and heritage areas in Qatar. She sought the perspective of elderly people within her family and beyond as well as specialists in Qatari heritage.
