Morocco thwarts more than 75,000 illegal immigration attempts in 2023

The Moroccan authorities revealed that they had thwarted more than 75,000 illegal immigration attempts in 2023, an increase of 6% compared to 2022.The Moroccan Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement, that more than 419 human trafficking networks had also been dismantled (an increase of 44% compared to 2022), adding that these networks are constantly working to develop their strategies and consolidate their services and criminal activities.Regarding rescue and assistance operations at sea, the ministry indicated that 16,818 migrants were rescued (an increase of 35% compared to 2022), and received assistance, medical escort, accommodation and guidance, within the framework of humanitarian border management.About 5,844 illegal immigrants benefited from voluntary return to their countries of origin, in coordination with the International Organization for Migration and diplomatic missions (an increase of 62% compared to 2022), the statement added.
