Emergency state declared in Russia's far east due to heavy snowstorm

Authorities in Sakhalin Island, in the far east of Russia, announced the closure of schools in the southern regions of the island tomorrow Thursday, the switch to distance learning, and the cancellation of dozens of flights due to a snowstorm.A state of emergency has been declared Wednesday, due to the heavy snow that has covered the region since yesterday. A state of alert was also declared in 10 municipalities in southern Sakhalin.About 33 domestic and international flights were delayed at Sakhalin Airport, and 20 of them were postponed until tomorrow Thursday.Transport movement has also been limited on eight highways.
