Italian ambassador in Doha Paolo Toschi has praised Qatar's co-operation with Italy over treating injured Palestinian civilians in the Italian hospitals. In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Toschi said that, as Italians, they feel proud to treat patients coming from Gaza in their hospitals and host their families. He added that they also feel proud that this is being done in co-operation with Qatar, which indicates the excellent level of bilateral relations.
The ambassador added that the arrival of the ship Vulcano yesterday in Italy confirms the success of the joint humanitarian efforts made by Italy and Qatar to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
Meanwhile, Qatar's ambassador in Rome Khalid bin Youssef al-Sada said that the arrival of the new batch of wounded Palestinian children and their families to Italy's Port of La Spezia on board the ship Vulcano is the result of co-ordination and co-operation between Qatar and Italy.
He pointed out that a medical team of six doctors from Qatar Armed Forces accompanied the wounded Palestinians on board the Italian ship and helped the Italian crew in providing the necessary medical support.
Ambassador Toschi affirmed that the two countries would continue cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid and through diplomatic channels to provide relief to civilians and sustain negotiations to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Italian Navy ship (Vulcano) arrived on Monday in the Italian port of La Spezia coming from Al Arish, Egypt, carrying 60 Palestinians, including 18 injured children, to receive treatment in Italian hospitals specializing in pediatrics.
Upon welcoming the Vulcano ship, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Antonio Tajani said that he would like to thank the army, Red Cross staff, and volunteers who participated in this operation in partnership with the State of Qatar, which worked to save many people. Tajani added that they want to move forward and no longer want to see what they saw at the expense of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
Tajani added that civilians are never responsible for what happens and for Italy, achieving peace is a goal of exceptional importance, and they would continue to work to achieve it.
The Qatari ambassador HE Khalid bin Youssef al-Sada said that Qatar and Italy worked in full coordination and cooperation for the arrival of this new batch of wounded and injured to receive treatment in Italy, praising this humanitarian initiative on Italy's side to treat the wounded Palestinians.
The Italian ship arrived Monday morning at Port of La Spezia from Egypt's Al Arish Port, where it was docked for approximately two months as a field hospital providing treatment services to wounded Palestinians coming from the Gaza Strip, he said.
He pointed out that a Qatari medical team of six doctors from Qatar's Armed Forces accompanied the wounded on board the Italian ship throughout that period and helped the Italian crew in providing the necessary medical support to the wounded Palestinians.
HE al-Sada stressed that Qatar and Italy's cooperation in this matter falls within the framework of Qatar's continuous and firm support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip in coordination and cooperation with various regional and international partners in light of the critical humanitarian conditions that the Strip is witnessing.
