Culture ministry partners with ICESCO for training session on intangible cultural heritage

The Ministry of Culture held a training session Monday under the theme of intangible cultural heritage, in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) and with the participation of employers from the Ministry of Culture.The session aims to train the employees at the Department of Heritage and Identity, along with the entities that co-operate with the ministry in the field of intangible cultural heritage, including the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Qatar University, alongside other parties.Director of Heritage and Identity at the Ministry of Culture Sheikha Najla Faisal al-Thani said the training session helps the ministry prepare national talents in intangible cultural heritage and to create generations capable of preparing files and logging them in the international organisations, to highlight the cultural heritage of Qatar, in addition to promoting this patrimony at international venues.The training session intends to shine a spotlight on the conventions relevant to the cultural part in Unesco, such as the 1972 World Heritage Convention, Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, she added, pointing out that the session included a practical application of inventorying the intangible cultural heritage in Qatar, since the process is the key foundation for countries to register the required elements in the Unesco representative list.The trainer at Unesco Mohamed Baig said the session was held in implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, to help curators of heritage and intangible cultural heritage comprehend the key concepts of the aforementioned convention.
