The Chinese embassy in Doha celebrated Monday the Spring Festival and the Chinese New Lunar Year in the presence of a number of senior Qatari officials, heads of various diplomatic missions, and Chinese community members.
Chinese ambassador Cao Xiaolin expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the “Qatari friends for their continuous support to the growth of the excellent Qatari-Chinese relations”.
"I arrived in Qatar on January 2, and presented my credentials to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on January 28,” he told the gathering. “I would like to thank the help received from the Qatari side in such a short period of time.”
“This also reflects the great importance that the Qatari side attaches to China-Qatar relations, and I greatly appreciate this," Cao added.
"I have deeply felt that Qatar is a prosperous and safe country: Qatar’s economy is thriving, the people enjoy a high quality of life, and Qatar’s diplomacy is very active,” the envoy said.
“I have also deeply felt that my Qatari friends highly commend the China-Qatar relations and look forward to closer co-operation between the two countries,” Cao continued. “It is a firm belief and common consensus in both the Qatari government and all sectors of society to develop friendly relations and co-operation with China."
"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1988, no matter how the international and regional situation changes, our two countries have consistently respected, understood, and supported each other, and written a splendid chapter of friendly co-operation between countries of different political systems, economic scales and cultures,” the envoy pointed out.
"We will celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, the year of dragon, in four days,” he said.
“In traditional Chinese culture, the dragon symbolises fortune, wisdom and strength,” Cao explained. “In the coming year, my colleagues in the Chinese embassy and I wish to work with our Qatari friends to enhance exchanges and communications for more fruitful results in co-operation in various fields."
