UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi called for the resumption of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), Grandi said that the situation is catastrophic for the people of Gaza, adding that the sooner decisions are made about the continuation or resumption of funding, the better it will be for the lives of millions of people.
He affirmed that UNRWA is doing important work that no one else can do, and that it has a very specific method of work, not only in the humanitarian field, but in running schools and medical centers for millions of Palestinians, warning of a decline in financial support for humanitarian needs around the world.
The Israeli entity had accused 12 UNRWA workers of involvement in the Israeli war on Gaza, and these reports prompted a number of Western countries to suspend funding for UNRWA, including major donor countries such as the US and Germany.
