Al Jazeera Media Institute, a subsidiary of Al Jazeera Media Network, Sunday celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Chairman of Board of Directors of Al Jazeera Media Network, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani, Acting Director General of the network Dr Mostefa Souag, alongside a lineup of guests, directors of Al Jazeera Media Network departments and staffers of a variety of sectors.
Addressing the ceremony, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute Iman al-Ameri said the institute has been among the top priorities of the Al Jazeera Media Network because talents that are not nurtured will diminish, impermanence is the only constant in journalism profession, and excellence should not be left to coincidence.
Over 20 years, the institute has organised 6,500 training sessions with the participation of over 75,500 trainees, with a third of them being Qatari and over 21,000 from the Network staffers, al-Ameri emphasised, pointing out that the institute has been keeping up with the evolution in the journalism profession through holding conferences and forums that discuss the reality and future of the profession, converging holders of academic expertise and offering technology for the media and major technological firms under one umbrella. This enabled to discuss challenges, opportunities and the impact arising from combining technology with the profession of journalism.
She highlighted that Al Jazeera Media Network won seven gold awards, three Viddy international Awards and four AVA Digital Awards, emphasising that these awards were the culmination of the steadfast work and great milestones the institute has achieved throughout 20 years of training and development.
