The students of the Core Curriculum Programme (CCP) at Qatar University (QU) raised about QR81,000 for Palestine by way of donations over a two-day campaign and about QR30,000 from a charity auction of art pieces.
The CCP, part of the Deanship of General Studies at QU, held the campaign in partnership with the Leadership & Civic Engagement Department and Qatar Charity, in solidarity with Gaza and Palestine.
Dr Saba Mansoor Qadhi, director of the CCP, said: "This event is part of our continuous efforts to raise awareness and show solidarity with the Palestinian cause, which is the primary concern for Muslims. We are proud of the students' commitment and effective contribution to the success of this initiative.”
Dr Abdelhamid Ahmed, CCP Professor, emphasised the event's success as a reflection of the leadership spirit and dedication of QU students in serving the community and fulfilling their role towards the Arab and Islamic nations.
Dr. Mohamed al-Khojah, CCP Lecturer, said: “This event reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting the values of generosity and solidarity in the cultural development of our university youth. We are committed to continuing our work in supporting humanitarian causes and achieving social justice.”
Maryam al-Nuaimi, a third-year student in the College of Arts and Sciences, highlighted her participation for the purpose of raising awareness about the Palestinian issue. She, along with her colleagues, managed a booth selling Palestinian food, with proceeds going towards donations for Gaza.
Mohamed Abdullah, another student, stated that the event once again proved the Qatari people's solidarity with their Palestinian brothers, emphasizing the continuous and enduring Arab solidarity with Palestine.
