Nasser al-Attiyah surrendered his overall lead at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge but remains within striking distance of new leader Seth Quintero. The Qatari off-road legend and his French navigator Edouard Boulange finished seventh in Stage 3 on Thursday, and are 1:10 secs behind Quintero, who topped the stage. Al-Attiyah could have been further behind but capitalised on Juan Cruz Yacopini’s troubles and his own comeback to minimise the impact of his 20-minute halt. The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is second round of the World Championship rally-raid (W2RC) and will run until Saturday.
