On the occasion of 53rd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, Md Nazrul Islam, ambassador of Bangladesh, hosted a reception in honour of local dignitaries, ambassadors and diplomats at a special event recently.
HE Ibrahim bin Ali bin Isa al-Hassan al-Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs graced the occasion as guest of honour.
Ambassador HE Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhroo, director of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army, Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy, , Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Eritrea were present at the reception as special guests. A significant number of ambassadors, diplomats, high officials, noted business and media personalities of Qatar were present at the reception.
The guest of honour and the special guests joined the ambassador of Bangladesh in the cake-cutting ceremony to mark the 53rd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. A colourful dance performance was presented at the reception by the Srishti Cultural Centre of Bangladesh.
Ambassador Islam paid deep homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders, 3mn martyrs and 200,000 women freedom fighters and valiant freedom fighters who brought the country’s independence in 1971. He also recalled the invaluable contribution of foreign friends who supported and recognised the independent Bangladesh.
He highlighted the socio-economic progresses of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government’s vision to transform Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041 and a prosperous and climate resilient delta by 2100. The ambassador appreciated Qatar’s success stories under the leadership of His Highness the Amir specially in the field of development, diplomacy, sports, international and regional peace and stability. He expressed his hope that the much-awaited visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Bangladesh would take place soon this year which would take the bilateral relations to its next level.
Bangladesh’s history, determination and commitment of people, rich heritage, spectacular natural beauty and diversity were presented through dance performances by the Srishti Cultural Centre of Bangladesh.
