Qatar took part in the ongoing Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin with a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), headed by HE MoECC Undersecretary Eng Abdulaziz bin Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.This participation underscores the State’s commitment to supporting international efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.The dialogue aims to strengthen international co-operation for implementing the Paris Agreement and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as preparing for the COP30 climate conference scheduled to take place in Brazil. This year’s agenda focuses on accelerating the implementation of Paris Agreement goals, discussing climate finance, nationally determined contributions (NDCs), adaptation measures, and climate governance.In his speech during the sessions, HE the MoECC Undersecretary highlighted the pivotal role of subsidiary body sessions at the Bonn Climate Change Conference in paving the way for global stocktake dialogues, mitigation programs, and just transitions tailored to the national circumstances of each country.The Qatari delegation emphasised the importance of international collaboration as a cornerstone for meaningful progress in climate action. referring to Article 3, Paragraph 5 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which advocates for a global economic system that supports sustainable development, particularly in developing nations. Through its participation in the dialogue, Qatar aims to highlight the significance of climate justice, support a just transition to a low-carbon economy, and ensure that developing countries receive assistance in adopting environmentally friendly technologies.The Petersberg Climate Dialogue is a significant platform for high-level discussions on climate co-operation and serves as a key step in preparing for the upcoming COP30 conference.
