The Sports Affairs Department at Qatar University (QU) has launched its inaugural Ramadan tournament, the QU Ramadan Grass Football Championship, held at the university stadium.
The tournament has the participation of 16 teams of about 160 students from various colleges within QU, said Sports Affairs Department director Dr Senaid al-Marri.
Other events include a Padel Championship, involving 14 teams and 40 students, a collaboration with the Qatar Swimming Association for Water Polo, and a Futsal championship featuring the university's Futsal team in collaboration with the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation.
Jassim al-Hamar, head of Men’s Sports Activities and Fitness Programmes at QU, said the football championship also seeks to discover exceptional sporting talents for the university team.
Jasser Mohammed, a student from the Physical Education department and coach of the Education College team, highlighted the pivotal role such tournaments play in recreation and showcasing students' talents and athletic abilities.
