Expo House and Expo 2023 Doha have received the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) certification from the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord), affirming Qatar's commitment to implementing sustainable infrastructure for the event held during from October 2, 2023 to March 28, 2024.The Expo House received the GSAS certification with a four-star rating in design and construction for adhering to high sustainability standards, the Ministry of Municipality announced Wednesday. The organising committee of the Expo aimed to leave a legacy that would last for years after the event's conclusion. Nearly 50 criteria were applied to every aspect of the design and construction of this distinguished structure. The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) praised the high standards achieved in this regard and published reports about this on its website.Expo 2023 Doha also received the GSAS Ecoleaf certification, granted by Gord to assess projects and events related to horticulture and sustainable agriculture. Expo 2023 Doha Organising Committee secretary-general Dr Faiqa Ashkanani stressed that the achievement reflects the significant efforts made to maintain balance between the preservation of Qatar's architectural heritage and the adoption of modern solutions to address sustainability challenges.She pointed out that Expo 2023 Doha has marked a milestone in the history of international horticultural exhibitions by contributing to innovative solutions to reduce desertification issues and create a green and sustainable environment for the current and future generations.The exhibition focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, technology, innovation, and modern agriculture. She noted that Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, will continue its efforts to enhance and apply sustainability standards in all its projects and initiatives, following the directives of HE the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah, to achieve Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.Dr Yousef Alhorr, chairman of Gord, lauded Qatar's efforts in applying sustainability standards and requirements. He said that awarding both the Expo House in Al Bidda Park with the GSAS certification for design and construction (four-star category) and the Expo Exhibition with the Ecoleaf certification is a strategic step that allowed a focus on the crucial role of sustainability and green initiatives that agrees with QNV 2030.
