The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Muhannad Hadi, on Tuesday called for strengthening the work of UN institutions in the Gaza Strip in partnership with local and international organizations.During a press conference held in Gaza, Hadi praised the efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, which led to the recent ceasefire agreement in the Strip. He emphasized that critical sectors such as health, education, nutrition, psychological support, and shelter require full support, highlighting the need to strengthen the role of the private sector in Gaza.Hadi also urged the provision of necessary assistance to support reconstruction efforts, enabling displaced families to return to their homes. He stressed that the people of Gaza are in dire need of humanitarian aid.The ceasefire agreement in Gaza came into effect last Sunday, following a brutal Israeli military offensive that began on Oct. 7, 2023. The aggression has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, destroying essential services and infrastructure, leveling tens of thousands of homes, and resulting in the deaths of at least 47,107 Palestinians and injuries to over 111,147 others. Approximately 11,000 people remain missing under the rubble or on the streets.
