Eid events needed outside Doha too, urge CMC members

The areas away from Doha, in the outskirts of Qatar, should have their fair share of Eid festivities so the local residents would not have to drive to the capital city to enjoy the celebrations, a number of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) members told local Arabic daily Arrayah.Many of the western, northern and southern areas of the country - including areas such as Al Khor, Umm Qarn, Simaisma, Al Sailiya, Karana and others, ought to have adequate Eid programmes featuring folk performances and kids play zones, they suggested.CMC member Abdulla al-Muraikhi said that no fireworks or any special Eid festivities were carried out at Ain Hleetan Market in Al Khor City, even though there are ample open spaces and parking lots. He said the location is suitable for major festivities and would be more easily accessible for the residents of the neighbouring areas rather than driving all the way to Doha.CMC member Fahd al-Baraydi said that the permanent headquarters of Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal should be used to organise various Eid festivities with kids play areas and special focus on the local folklore. CMC member Hamad al-Kubaisi pointed out even the public parks and gardens in the suburbs can easily host many temporary activities and events, which will both serve the inhabitants of the surrounding areas and ease possible crowds in Doha. CMC member Nayif al-Ahbabi stressed there is a need to distribute the Eid festivities across the various outskirts of the country.
