The Rescue and Emergency Service in Russia confirmed that the number of homes flooded by spring floods increased by 1.7 thousand during the last 24 hours, reaching nearly 18,000 homes.
By this morning, spring floods had submerged 17,808 residential homes in 210 towns and 175 plots of land belonging to rural homes. The increase reached more than 1.7 thousand within one day, especially in the Orenburg and Kurgan provinces, authorities said, adding that the water flooded 32,593 plots of land belonging to rural homes, in addition to 95 bridges and 77 private roads for cars.
Natalia Frolova from Moscow State University had previously indicated that the floods taking place in Orenburg Province, southern Russia, were the most violent of their kind in 80 years. Among the causes of this flood were the sudden high temperatures that were recorded in the region late March and early April, she added.
