HE the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah on Tuesday inaugurated the Mesaieed Park, under the jurisdiction of Al Wakra Municipality.
Designed and implemented by the Public Gardens Department at the ministry according to the highest international standards, the new park will serve the residents of Mesaieed and neighbouring areas, by encouraging them to practice running and walking.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Central Municipal Council (CMC) deputy chairman Mubarak bin Fareesh al-Salem, Ministry of Municipality's General Services Affairs assistant undersecretary engineer Abdullah Ahmed al-Kirani, Urban Planning Affairs assistant undersecretary Turki Fahd al-Turki, CMC member for Constituency 20 Saeed Ali al-Marri, several other officials, including some from QatarEnergy.
HE the Minister of Municipality stressed Qatar's interest, in increasing the construction and development of public parks and gardens, planting trees, and expanding green areas across the country as a healthy and recreational outlet for citizens, residents, and visitors, aiming to achieve sustainable environmental development goals, based on the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030) towards National Vision 2030.
He also highlighted the considerable development seen at all the parks, recreational areas, and green spaces in the country.
By 2023, there were 144 parks, plazas and corniches. Besides, the green spaces in the country amounted to 43 sq km in 2023.
Al-Kirani pointed out that the General Services Sector at the Ministry of Municipality pays great attention to establishing new public parks, and renovating the old and dilapidated ones.
The ministry, in coordination with relevant entities, has developed a strategic plan to increase green spaces and the number of parks across the country, distributed among all municipalities in the coming years.
Mohamed Ibrahim al-Sada, acting director of the Public Gardens Department, said that the construction of the Mesaieed Park was completed within 10 months, and the department will supervise its maintenance and operation. The park, spread across 38,029 sqm, includes a 676m sports track with rubber surface.
The green areas cover about 11,316 sqm with natural grass, trees, and palms, irrigated using the latest automatic methods.
Further, the park features three football fields: the first with 1,847 sqm for adults, the second with 450 sqm for children aged 6-15, and the third with 288 sqm for children under eight. In addition there is a basketball court covering 553 sqm and a tennis court across 667 sqm.
The park includes an illuminated water fountain covering an area of 130 sqm, and six illuminated pergolas of a total area of 350 sqm.
The park has also a covered children's play area, with rubber flooring, for ages 3-15. There are sports equipment for children and adults in four areas. The park has air-conditioned toilets, including facilities for people with special needs, a furnished women's prayer area with its own ablution area.
The park is equipped with all safety and security features, including surveillance cameras. There are 132 parking lots, including for people with special needs and police vehicles.
