The Earthna Centre for a Sustainable Future is poised to release a book that would shed light on Qatar’s diverse ecosystems and rich biodiversity, executive director Dr Gonzalo Castro de la Mata has said.

“At Earthna, one of our key initiatives revolves around diversity and ecosystems, and we are on the brink of completing a major book focusing on Qatar’s ecosystems and biodiversity,” he explained.

Besides efforts to protect the environment, Dr de la Mata underlined the book’s importance as a substantial contribution to the understanding and preservation of Qatar’s natural heritage.

The publication, is a culmination of collaborative efforts between local and global experts, presenting a comprehensive overview of Qatar’s ecosystems and biodiversity.

The Earthna official highlighted the book’s different chapters, which explore critical issues related to biodiversity conservation in Qatar. Despite its arid landscape, he noted that the country boasts resilient species uniquely adapted to survive in the desert environment, making it an integral part of the country’s biodiversity.

Dr de la Mata pointed out that the book’s release aligns with Earthna’s broader sustainability agenda, underscoring the conservation of Qatar’s unique desert biodiversity and ecosystems. He stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the significance of Qatar’s natural heritage and the urgent need for conservation efforts.

Earthna, established as a non-profit policy centre under Qatar Foundation, is committed to informing and influencing national and global sustainability policy. It prioritises the creation of tools, solutions, and policies aimed at enhancing the well-being of individuals within a flourishing natural setting.

Dr de la Mata previously reiterated Earthna’s commitment to ecosystem restoration through a pioneering mangrove restoration project, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. He stressed the key role of mangroves in shoreline stabilisation and protection against sea-level rise, affirming their significance for Qatar's environmental resilience.

About Earthna’s ongoing and upcoming initiatives, Dr de la Mata outlined the organisation’s multifaceted approach to sustainability. He said Earthna’s diverse programmes cover sustainability frameworks, circular economy initiatives, and water conservation efforts, among others.

Dr de la Mata unveiled plans for major programmes slated for launch this year, highlighting Earthna’s dedication to advancing sustainability and combating climate change through innovative initiatives and strategic partnerships.
