The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) yesterday announced that the Hayat Plaza Chess Tournament will be held from May 17 to 18 at the Hayat Plaza Shopping Mall with the participation of around 100 players.
The tournament will feature a rapid chess tournament following the Swiss system consisting of nine rounds. In addition, over 100 players will compete in the under-16 category, playing seven rounds under the rapid chess system.
Yousef al-Mutawa, Secretary General of QCA, expressed his happiness head of the tournament, saying more players are taking up the sport, in both rapid and blitz chess. He pointed out collaboration with the Hayat Plaza Mall will continue to expand the chess culture within the community.
Al-Mutawa appreciated the fruitful cooperation with the management of Hayat Plaza, indicating the Association's efforts to implement its strategy through hosting numerous tournaments. Further, QCA aims to promote chess across Doha and beyond, emphasizing that organizing the tournament within a commercial complex enhances chess culture through the participation and attendance of the public.
He stressed that these tournaments agree with the QCA's strategy, aiming to build a generation that enriches national teams and leads the game in related international event.
In the meantime, Fayroz Muhi al-Din, CEO of Hayat Plaza, expressed his great pleasure in continuing the cooperation with QCA, stressing the significant interest of participants and the audience during the previous edition of the tournament two years ago.
