A delegation from Qatar Charity (QC), headed by chief executive Yousuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, participated in the 9th Conference on Effective Partnership for Better Humanitarian Aid, held in Kuwait under the patronage of the Kuwaiti prime minister and organised by the International Islamic Charitable Organisation.
The event was held in co-ordination and partnership with the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and several other humanitarian organisations, with support and co-operation of many strategic partners, including the QC, a statement said.
The conference focused on assessing the reality of humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip, mobilising efforts of humanitarian organisations to manage sustainable humanitarian intervention, offering initiatives and solutions to meet these needs, and sharing common expertise in the early recovery.
Al-Kuwari said that the QC is a strategic partner for the conference, given its humanitarian work amidst the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.
He emphasised the importance of mobilising support from humanitarian organisations worldwide to meet the needs of the people in Gaza.
He affirmed that the QC places the humanitarian and developmental needs of the Palestinian people at the top of its priorities for assistance.
During his opening speech at the conference, he elaborated that the QC, with the support of philanthropists in Qatar, has extended a helping hand to the people of the Gaza Strip for more than 200 days amidst the escalating humanitarian crisis gripping the region.
Al-Kuwari highlighted that the QC, in collaboration with the Qatar Fund for Development and various Qatar-based organisations, participated in sending 95 aircraft transporting over 2,800 tonnes of aid, comprising 845 tonnes of food supplies, 1,600 tents, and 44,000 packages of medical supplies, shelter kits, and clothing.
At the end of his speech, he emphasised that the QC will continue to support the people of Palestine as a humanitarian duty and stand by them in the face of their difficult circumstances.
The one-day conference, which is made up of five sessions, discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, means of delivering aid, civilians' protection, and the need of expanding response as well as the repercussions of forced displacement and ways of getting basic needs.
The closing session witnessed the launch of a humanitarian initiative, Sanad, to enhance humanitarian intervention and early recovery in Gaza.
