Qatar Airways is poised to make a strategic investment in an undisclosed airline operating in southern Africa within the upcoming weeks, as part of its endeavor to broaden its presence across the continent.
During the Qatar Economic Forum, CEO Badr Al-Meer revealed, "We are in the final stage of an equity investment in an airline in the southern part of Africa." Although the specific carrier remains unnamed, Al-Meer hinted that there are only a select few airlines under consideration. He indicated that an official announcement could be anticipated within the next two to three weeks.
Al-Meer emphasized the significance of southern Africa in Qatar Airways' expansion strategy, noting that it represents the final component needed to enhance the airline's scale in a region experiencing a surge in travel demand. Currently serving 31 destinations in Africa, Qatar Airways aims to augment its network through strategic partnerships and investments.
