Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra to enchant audience with Wagnerian masterpieces

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) is set to deliver an evening of extraordinary music Wednesday at the Qatar National Convention Centre Auditorium 3.Under the baton of the acclaimed German-Japanese conductor Elias Grandy and featuring the remarkable German opera singer Lioba Braun, the concert promises to be a memorable experience for classical music enthusiasts.The evening will begin with Richard Wagner’s emotive "Prelude” and "Liebestod” from Tristan und Isolde, setting the stage for a journey through passion and longing. This powerful opening will be followed by Wagner’s poignant Wesendonck Lieder, showcasing Lioba Braun’s captivating voice and emotional depth. The programme continues with excerpts from Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and culminates with the grand "Tannhäuser” Overture, a powerful and iconic piece by the legendary composer.Grandy, whose international profile is rapidly rising, is known for his dynamic and precise conducting style. The press hailed him as "passionate and full of temperament” and lauded his ability to "grasp psychological subtleties under a microscope.”Grandy has recently given highly successful debuts with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony, Osaka Philharmonic, and Minnesota Orchestra, solidifying his reputation as a conductor of first-class orchestras and opera productions in Europe, America, and Asia.Mezzo-soprano Lioba Braun began her artistic career as a local cantor at the cathedral in Würzburg, the city where she grew up and completed her studies as a church musician. Her international career took a spectacular turn in 1994 when she stepped in at short notice to sing Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival, under the direction of Daniel Barenboim. Since then, Braun has become a distinguished figure in the opera world, known for her rich voice and profound interpretative skills.
